Housewarming

So here’s something a little different. Two of my gorgeous friends, and my lovely mother-in-law, have all just moved house. So I decided to paint a housewarming card, print it, and send it to each of them to wish them much joy and happiness in their new homes. I was walking in the woods this morning when the image began to form in my mind……

…a perfectly quirky woodland retreat, blending into the landscape around it, and sprinkled with a little whimsy. Nestled in a gold leafed wood, with a homely sign showing the way. A little house magic!

I haven’t painted for quite a while, so I’m hoping this is the resurrection of an old habit…..the first small stirrings of a long slumbering beast.

  1. Ciao MacKenzie;- 10:40 A.M on u’re side I see the Sun Burst over the Ocean from my home…Looks like u’re photo except over the Ocean as the Sun Rises from the East 🙂 Next time send u a pic. by Richard Honan.

This reminds me the dawn after the Ice Age…..The warmth and Heath over the Earth “Planet” ( The Sun Burst.)

I read everyone of u’re posts

How far are you from Edinburgh ?

    • Thank you so much, it’s always lovely to know who’s reading along.
We live about 8 miles from the city centre….Edinburgh’s not a big city, one of the reasons I love it 🙂
Love and Light to you and yours in the dark season of the year.

This is absolutely adorable! You have such artistic and creative talents. Like others here, I can see a children’s book. Now, I may not have mentioned it, but I am sure I may be moving house over the next twenty years or so….:)

  5. Completely lovely cards which they will treasure I’m sure! You really should consider illustrating books. Children’s books would be great. It’s the fantasy inside you, the stories and the positive thoughts coming out. Brilliant!

How magnificent! These are gorgeous paintings. You surely are an illustrator for books – children’s tales? If not, you should be. Just gorgeous.

  11. Hanna says:

The paintings are so cute, Seonaid 🙂

  12. Quite nice. I very much like the style … I hope to see more in the near future. D

  13. This looks like the cover of a children’s book (with a nicer story than Hansel and Gretel!). Such lovely colours and free brushstrokes. I wish I could turn my hand to something like this. I’m sure your cards will take pride of place on the mantlepiece of the lucky recipients

  14. colonialist says:

It is really lovely – fresh and a trifle quirky. This style would do well for children’s books.

  15. This is so beautiful and creative! You’re quite the talented painter 🙂

  16. You might as well include a frame because they will want to display something this beautiful and original. 🙂

  17. you never cease to amaze 🙂
what other talents have you got squirrelled away? 🙂

  18. Lucid Gypsy says:

Oh Seonaid its fab, is there no end to your talents?

    • Gilly, thanks so much for the encouragement. I hope there isn’t an end to my talents…..or anyone else’s for that matter 😉 I had to be quite brave to post this…..funny the things we find difficult!

  19. What a talent — creativity bursting from every seam! They will treasure these cards.

  20. twoscamps says:

    Very beautifully done, Friend!

  29. Seonaid – not only are you a poetess, nature lover par excellence, photographer, but you are also a painter. You are upping the ante for the rest of us….I am sure your friends and mother-in-law will treasure these beautiful house warming gifts.

    • Too kind 🙂 I’m so happy to hear you think they will like the cards. Art’s a funny thing, I’ve no sooner finished something, than I’ve decided it’s no good, despite being filled with delight as I created it….for me much harder than photography!

Let me know your thoughts on my post...I love feedback :-)
