More than Mom
Well, again and again – nothing beats nature. Or you.
Oh my, what a gorgeous compliment Anna Christine ๐
Oh my gosh, this is beautiful Seonaid! It made me think of one of my favorite poems. Hopefully you won’t mind if I post it here. This was lovely….. ๐
The Waking
By Theodore Roethke
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.
We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.
Light takes the Tree; but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.
This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.
That’s so beautiful, and somehow a perfect match for the image. Thanks so much for sharing such inspirational words ๐
By coincidence today is Theodore Roethke’s birthday. Glad you enjoyed this poem, Seonaid.
Wow, happy birthday Theodore….how very fitting!
The poem is beautiful.
Wow! This is stunning. Beautiful image, beautiful words to go with it. ๐
Thank you for sharing this stunning photo and haiku.
My pleasure Mary, and thank you for sharing such lovely thoughts ๐
Lovely marriage of words and image; thanks for sharing this ๐
Thanks so much Sue, it’s always lovely to hear feedback….especially when it’s so complimentary ๐
You’re welcome ๐
This shot is exquisite. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us! The accompanying haiku is also just lovely. The two combined brought tears to my eyes.
My pleasure, the scene itself had me smiling for hours ๐
Wowwww. Gorgeous photo.
Thank you…..it was an amazing sunset
Wow – spectacular beauty!
Thanks Fi, the light in the sky and the water make such a lovely combination…..but I know you see this almost everyday over your beautiful lake ๐
thank you . . . t h a n k y o u
My pleasure……you know how I love to share ๐
Seonaid! this is a gorgeous photo!
It came out quite well….still never quite as breathtaking as the real thing….but I was happy with the results ๐
Yep, the real deal is much better than the image. So hard to capture the crisp cold or the warm tinge on the face. What a picture!
My thoughts today are that you captured a most gorgeous photo. ๐
Well thank you Judy ๐
It was a very beautiful evening
Gosh you live in an incredibly beautiful part of the world.
Thanks Suzanne, although this is a little further north and west in Scotland that where I live…..but we go there lots as my mothers family is from here. Hope the house move has gone smoothly for you ๐
What a beautiful place to have as your homeland. It must make your heart sing to go visiting there. My move went ok. Now to unpack.
You have such amazing skies and the haiku is a perfect match ๐
Gilly this was a particularly wonderful sky Skye moment!
Oh, this is really, really beautiful. Wow…
Thanks Sharon….it was a stunning evening in a spot which is always beautiful ๐
Beautiful! Love the contrasting colors and crepuscular rays ๐

Amazingly beautiful image and words to go with it.
Spilling golden dreams– too beautiful! That is a spectacular shot!
Amy I’m delighted you like the words….and the picture was painted by nature, waiting for me to capture ๐
Ahh your haiku and picture opens the floodgates of my heart, lovely and lovely!
Thanks, and that sounds like a wonderful thing to happen ๐
As good as it gets; beautiful ๐
Andrew, what a lovely comment….nature keeps creating wonderful combinations…..
ribbons of blue and gold, heaven breaking through to touch the dreaming wild places … thanks for being there, for seeing, for sharing, Seonaid … and did you have golden dreams?
Totally gorgeous! D
Thanks David, it was a moment to feel calm and exhilarated at the same time ๐
The photograph is stunning. Your words open my imagination… they are so beautiful. Gorgeous!
Gwynn, isn’t it wonderful when our imagination opens….especially through cracked clouds ๐
That sky, and that landscape – amazing combination.
The clouds and the mountains each held their own wild beauty….woven together by the piercing sunbeams ๐
Stunning, is the word. Almost unearthly.
You know that was really how this evening felt, as though we might have landed somewhere other than the earth we know and love so well ๐
beautiful, love the lighting and colours ๐
The light was incredible, so unusual
Just dreamy, Seonaid! What utterly perfect light ๐
Thanks Sarah, it was a dreamy end to a wonderful day ๐
