From deep in the cold dark earth, soft petal blades stir, cutting their path through the skin of soil. Soft as silk and sharp as thorns their colour lights the dark somber beds of late winter. Called into the light by the spring turn of the planet, they appear, dappled in moon dew, glistening in sun drops. You are amazingly in tune with nature and have a real gift for translating what you see and feel into prose or poetry! It’s interesting that you observed the petal blades to be both soft and sharp. Water can be like that, too. Think of how the Grand Canyon was formed; that wide gap between massive rock. And yet, water can be so soft and gentle. I think everything has opposing qualities within itself, human beings included.
What a lovely comment, thank you. I wrote a post a while back called ‘the power of softness’ looking at just the process you are speaking about. Water is a fascinating and powerful element….and always looking for the route of least resistance to return to source….to re-merge with the ocean.

You have me wishing I would have found the time to plant bulbs last fall so I can look forward to this sight with what we hope will be Spring some day here! My flowering bulbs have faded over the years and a fresh crop needs to be planted!
I know, we need to keep planting a few every year, as the squirrels dig them up and eat them…apart from snowdrops which they won’t touch 🙂 This cluster are quite old now, and I can see them from my kitchen window, and it’s always a welcome sight to see them return.
