About greenmackenzie

Hi, I'm Seonaid, and I share my home on the shores of Loch Ness deep in the Scottish Highlands with my husband, my son and a couple of dogs. I love art which is here now and gone tomorrow...like food and nature...but also have a passion for vintage and the ancient past! Nature is my favourite muse, with her wild ever shifting seasons. I have been using and teaching mindfulness and relaxation for over 12 years, and have yet to become any sort of expert :-) I'm a Psychotherapist and Cancer Support Specialist in Maggies Highlands

  1. Wonderful haiku and image, Seonaid. That forest glade looks so magical.

Wonderful pairing of image and haiku. I could see the owl right away, and reading through the comments, I find it even more fascinating when paired with the myth. 🙂

  3. Rachael Charmley says:

Love the photo and the light. The haiku is intriguing 🙂

    • Thanks Rachael….the haiku is based on a fairly obscure Celtic myth.
The magian Math created her from flowers, but then she chose to be with a different man from the one she was created to be with ( he had been cursed by his mother to never have a wife born of a woman!)…. I love that she still had a mind of her own, but Math was cross with her defiance and turned her into an owl as punishment….destined to only see the light of the moon on her face…..hence the tragic end 🙂

Thank you for enlightening me. Fascinating; you have reminded me how satisfying it is to write myth stories. Haven’t written any for such a long time… 😦

What a sweet and lovely scene.

Your wise owl stands guard in his woods watching for four-legged interlopers. What your “extras” didn’t run up to nose the owl? I love the solitary feel of your woods, and the serenity… a perfect place for your owl. Gorgeous picture as always… and I love your words. Thanks.

    • Gwynn the dogs were on their leads going through here…..otherwise I think they would have photo-bombed for sure 🙂
It was a really serene setting with the pools of sunlight showing us the cairns.

I love how your mind and lenses work 🙂

Love to know more about this one Seonaid . Are you going to tell 😉

    • Poppy, I loved the light on this cairn….it’s part of an art trail in Attadale Gardens up in Wester Ross…when I looked at the photo it looked like a stone owl perched on the boulder, and this got me thinking about Blodwed the Celtic maiden created from flowers by the magician Math….perfect sense in my head 🙂

  9. Lucid Gypsy says:

A perfect haiku for the setting!

  10. restlessjo says:

That sounds like a song I know 🙂 What a strange little clearing in the woods.

    • I wonder what the song is Jo….I was thinking of Blodwed the Celtic flower maiden…..she was turned to an owl 🙂

      • restlessjo says:

        I’ll hum it for you 🙂 🙂
Do you know Gemma at First and Fabulous, Seonaid? I can’t remember if I’ve seen her in your comments? She totally adores owls and would love this.

  11. Did you construct the cairn, or did you come upon it serendipitously? D
