Summer lovin’ Bastet style. Nobody soaks up the suns heat as stylishly as cats, and our Bengal positively shimmers in the solar heat. The Egyptians worshiped cats, and cats worship the sun. Perhaps they have a drop or two of wisdom to share about looking beautiful and catching the solar light. Certainly it’s a love affair with heat. Her fierce leonine side was tamed with opium infused beer…..

About greenmackenzie
Hi, I'm Seonaid, and I share my home on the shores of Loch Ness deep in the Scottish Highlands with my husband, my son and a couple of dogs. I love art which is here now and gone tomorrow...like food and nature...but also have a passion for vintage and the ancient past! Nature is my favourite muse, with her wild ever shifting seasons. I have been using and teaching mindfulness and relaxation for over 12 years, and have yet to become any sort of expert :-) I'm a Psychotherapist and Cancer Support Specialist in Maggies Highlands
This is stunning…what a great close up shot.
Thank you, this is a cat who knows how to pose 🙂
Lovely. This is a very beautiful cat and a very special photo.
Thank you, he enjoyed meeting you very much….and as you can see he likes to pose in the sun!
As some cats do…The cats I had as a child just loved to lie in the sun. And I loved to watch them bathe in it!
So glowingly enigmatic like a true sphinx 😉
A sphinx indeed, and at times a minx….he’s a very clever thief 🙂
This photo surely captures the love of sun and the beauty of cats.
Sun and cats really go well together 🙂
She’s beautiful! This is such a rich, gorgeous image. A goddess in the sunlight. 🙂
Thanks Robin, but perhaps more of a God than a Goddess…. glow is definitely what his fur does in the sun, and he always looks like he’s smiling 🙂
Oh,this is such a wonderful glowing image of Bastet. Reminds me of The Great Sphinx I saw in Egypt, shimmering in the sunshine. 🙂
He is quite sphinx like now that you mention it….and definitely glows and shimmers in the sun. What an amazing sight the sphinx is, rising out of the desert sand…..
Such an amazing photo
Thanks Marc-Andre, I haven’t taken many of the cat yet.
Keep them coming 🙂
She’s beautiful!
Thanks Gilly, a great mouser and spider catcher too 🙂
Wow – how gorgeous! Just purr-fect…
Purr-fectly beautiful….and he knows it 🙂
Joanna says that I’m supposed to give this a ‘double like’ if I can! She is biased though … I call her the cat whisperer. Have you ever read the Solar Cat Book (http://www.amazon.com/The-Solar-Cat-Book-Augustyn/dp/0898150183/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406593671&sr=8-2&keywords=solar+cat+book) … if not … it’s required reading for owners of solar cats such as your Bastet … beautiful animal with true presence. D
Thanks to Joanna for the double like, and no I haven’t come across that book, so thanks for the heads up. He’s a great mouser, although sometimes brings them in alive to play with first, and he is heavy as he is pure muscle 🙂
Awww, she’s a beauty 🙂 Our too have been sleeping through the hot days and keeping us awake at night whilst they chase moths about the house!
They do love to sleep and bask in the sun, but he’s quite sociable and will come and join us if we’re out in the garden. We need to train him to be a better moth catcher as we ended up with a bat in our bedroom chasing moths the other night!!
Hahahahahahaha! Genius. I can picture the cat sitting there laughing as if he’d conspired with the bat 😉
Smiling peaceful tiger 🙂
Indeed, a tiger just beneath that soft fur 🙂
Incredible picture! What a lovely feline expression. She definitely is a sun worshipper! I would love to hear the story about the use of the beer! 😉
Thanks as always Gwynn for your lovely comment. The beer was used, according to the myths, to tame the wild Egyptian lion goddess Sekhmet. Daughter of the sun and Goddess of fire, war and destruction, she had become so fierce and destructive that the ancient Egyptian priests came up with a plan to send her to sleep by adding opium to the beer she loved to drink……she became docile and gained a new name, Bastet, Goddess of the home, medicine, love and childbirth…in the form of a cat of course 🙂
She is gorgeous! Great capture Seaonaid.
Thanks so much….her fur gleams and glows in the sun 🙂
“Cat worship”. That’s the word that fills me…
He is as really beautiful cat….and so full of character…but a terrible thief 🙂
Love that smile.
He does smile so beautifully….but I do think cats know just how beautiful they look at all times 🙂
Another beautiful image of your special creatures! 🙂 Thank you
I have never posted any photos of the cats, so I’m delighted you enjoyed this. A first for me, thank you 🙂
