Wave running

Running free, with the wind in their fur, and salty waves between their paws. The race is on….

Stretching deep into every muscle from nose to tail, each trying to run faster than the other. Splashing and pounding the sand, breathing deeply, these two are fully present in their bodies and in the elements around them. No thoughts distracting their focus, they are the embodiment of mindful motion.

Powering forwards Molly pulls even with her mum, the joy of wave running clearly written on her face.

The winner is clear!

Mindfulness needn’t be all stillness and silence, and just like the dogs we can run free and wild with the wind in our hair, mindfully inhabiting our bodies. Any movement can be practiced with attention, and a focus on the senses, and this is the heart of mindful living. Moving and breathing with awareness and passion, instead of sleep walking through our lives on autopilot. Walking, swimming, yoga, singing, surfing, cooking, painting and gardening are all perfect examples of active, movement based mindfulness, which can help to pull us out of our  thinking minds and back into our bodies and the sensory world around us.  And that sensory world is the gateway to less stressful living. Living from the heart and the body, instead of the worry filled mind.

See if you can find your version of wave running this week!

Full pelt and having such fun! 🙂 My route is less energetic, Seonaid. T’ai chi and walking 🙂 Lovely shots, hon.

What pleasure on such a day as we’ve had so far to see the lovely liveliness in your dogs enjoying that ‘full stretch’ among the waves ! Super action photos Seonaid and a great reminder .

    • I love seeing the dogs really stretch into a good run, it seems to release so much tension and bring such joy😊 Alwats makes me smile watching, and of course the water gave a nice sense of motion✨

  5. I love the exuberance and intensity of their activity – their pleasure spills over.
Thanks for the reminder to be mindful. We have a short window for finishing up landscaping chores before rainy weather hits; so I’ll use my time outside to really appreciate instead of just pushing to get things done.

    • Great idea to change movement into joy instead of to be done tasks. The still gets done but in a much richer way😊
I have a few garden tasks still waiting for a break in the weather, so I’ll try and follow your lead to embrace them mindfully ✨

I love this, especially the reminder to be mindful in movement. That’s where we find a lot of moments of happiness (as exhibited by the joyful look of the dogs running). Makes me want to go wave running. 🙂

Gorgeous. You fourlegged buddies put a big smile on my face. 😀 ❤ ❤

  8. Fabulous – so well captured in mid flight! I recommend being on a motorcycle at high speed – it concentrates the mind on one thing and one thing only 😉

Thanks to you and your girls for the inspiration x:-)x

A wonderful and inspirational post Seonaid. I have to say that white dog of yours has to be one of the most enthusiastic animals I have ever seen. Just looking at the photos makes me smile.

    • She is a very happy dog with a lust for life💕We nearly lost her though as a puppy as she was born with a liver shunt and needed big surgeries. Amazing to see her now full of the joy of life💕

What joyful shots and such a lovely reminder to let go of worry and live from heart and body.

  12. Loved your photos. What fun they are having. Thanks for the inspiration, Seonaid. 🙂

  13. Such a joy to watch them them running through the surf 🙂 The simple pleasures in life should never be overlooked!

  14. Great photos – they both look like they are having the best of times. 🙂

I SO love your thoughts and words! However, don’t forget to include dancing in your mindfulness! 🙂 Moving to the rhythm revives my day and makes me smile… like Molly outrunning her mum! Your dogs are such beauties! I envy their running in the sand and the waves. It is POURING down rain here. I need to rejuvenate my psyche by walking my waterfront, but I don’t want a cold shower in the process! I’ll have to walk via osmosis with you and your charming pets.

    • Of course, how could I leave dancing off my mindful moving list! We had a run of three miserable days of misty rain and clouds, but today the skies cleared and out came the sun again:-)
you’re very welcome to walk with me and the dogs whenever you need 😉

      • gwynnrogers says:

If you ever think you are being followed, it’ll just be me in spirit splashing along with you! 😉 I would LOVE to be there in person though. I’ll have to work at winning the lottery! 😉

      • Lol…I like the idea of you following in spirit Gwynn…but if you do win the lottery let me know and we’ll head out for a walk😊✨

Love these photos! Thanks for sharing them. My current dog hates the water so we don’t get to see her frolick like this.

    • Oh my, a dog who doesn’t like water….I just cant imagine!! Although mine aren’t keen swimmers. Don’t get me wrong they can swim…they just prefer to keep all four paws in contact with the bottom!! They get very over excited if we go in swimming out of their depth;-)
