The sun leaned in and kissed the earth yesterday, and just like that the warm soil seemed to spring back to life. The snowdrops were everywhere, glistening white against the dark earth, the promise of a flower filled Spring yet to come. Delicate beauty, pushing through the cold hard soil of winter.
There was a bright freshly sprung carpet of wild garlic, just beginning to push through the discarded leaf litter of last Autumn. The wild scent filled the air as my boots crushed the delicate blades, releasing the aromatic oils. A bright splash of colour and scent announcing the end of barren winters grip.
An ancient oak, waking from its winter slumber, yawned in the suns warmth. Stretching up into the light and warmth of the strengthening sun. You could almost hear the sap stirring deep beneath the gnarled and crusty bark.
The sharp green blades of daffodils thrust with such vigour through the earth that moss and bark were lifted aloft. The green energy of life pushing and pulsing upwards towards the light, bursting free from its earthbound winter prison.
If we take the time to look closely there are constant signs of change, of the season turning, and of the resilience of life. Despite the still bare branches, the hope of spring is stirring beneath our feet, growing stronger each day with the suns kisses. Nothing, not even the crushing desolation of winter, lasts for ever. Snowdrops already! At least another month here… Such perceptive photos, you made me feel the warmth
Oh I’m so glad I could share the warmth! As soon as I stepped out of the sunlight though, the temperature dropped back to a more seasonal chill! But the snowdrops always make me so happy. This morning there were honey bees collecting from the flowers 🙂

It’s been a delicious few days of bright warm sunshine…well warm by Scottish standards in February….I wonder if winter is over already for us?
there is something about green in nature, isn’t there? Lovely.
Yeah, especially after all the white and grey of winter. It’s like the landscape has been bleached of odour for the last few months….so the burst of green s very welcome 🙂

When will your snowdrops come?
Well, if the sun starts shining and we stay a few days more than zero…then some will show up already in february, close to the wall. Usually they then are covered with snow the week after…This year there is no sign of them.
I am quite jealous of you! Here the only daffodils to be seen are the ones in the supermarket and at the florists. I nearly bought one the other day, just to have some spring in my home.
It will still be a little while till we see the gorgeous yellow flowers, but there’s something so hopeful about bulbs in early spring. The temperature here in Scotland has suddenly warmed up a bit….so I hope it lasts 🙂
