On Being Open

Petals flung open exposing heart and bones
Careless shadows flung into plain sight
Arteries dark secrets illuminated
For those who are looking
Her whole truth is visible
Its shameful flaws bated traps
Breathlessly holding her skirts ready
But nobody runs to escape the revelation
The sun radiates and earth rolls on peacefully as ever

About greenmackenzie

Hi, I'm Seonaid, and I share my home on the shores of Loch Ness deep in the Scottish Highlands with my husband, my son and a couple of dogs. I love art which is here now and gone tomorrow...like food and nature...but also have a passion for vintage and the ancient past! Nature is my favourite muse, with her wild ever shifting seasons. I have been using and teaching mindfulness and relaxation for over 12 years, and have yet to become any sort of expert :-) I'm a Psychotherapist and Cancer Support Specialist in Maggies Highlands

  1. WOW, this just took my breath away! Stunning!

  2. Beautiful words and images, as always Miss Seonaid. Is the flower a type of astrantia? I only know Florida plants, even after being here for 25 (gulp) years 😀 PS I gave you a name check on today’s post ( re your yellow squashes). Hope that was okay x

    • Well your flower identifying skills are spot on Kellie, it is indeed an astrantia. It’s one of my favourites, because of the green and pink combination. Also thanks for the name check, and as we are currently drowning in a glut of yellow squashes More will be winging their way towards you 🙂

I love that the “The sun radiates and earth rolls on peacefully as ever”. The way that it ends the poem with that reassurance: Whatever happens, remember that the earth keeps rolling around on its axis. A beautiful poem. Thank you.

    • Thanks Julie, it’s something I comfort myself with whenever anxiety begins to sneak in, whenever Im struggling to make what feels like an oh so important decision, whenever it feels as though the world might unravel……I just need to look up at the sun or moon, or down at the soft earth and feel grounded 🙂
