Days End

The day never ends
The silky lip of the sea
Simply swallows light.

About greenmackenzie

Hi, I'm Seonaid, and I share my home on the shores of Loch Ness deep in the Scottish Highlands with my husband, my son and a couple of dogs. I love art which is here now and gone food and nature...but also have a passion for vintage and the ancient past! Nature is my favourite muse, with her wild ever shifting seasons. I have been using and teaching mindfulness and relaxation for over 12 years, and have yet to become any sort of expert :-) I'm a Psychotherapist and Cancer Support Specialist in Maggies Highlands

I think this may be my favorite haiku of all time, and I’ve been a fan of the form for decades. “The silky lip of the sea”: gorgeous, perfect.

as if those words could possibly get better…there it is, that scene of those words…swooning, girl, I’m just swooning

Lovely words, Seonaid. I adore that coastline of yours.
Do you take a swim in the summertime, or is it too dangerous with currents and tides?
    All the best,

    • Thank you Hanna, and it’s a great place for swimming if you can bear the cold water. With the wonderful weather this summer I swam a few times, and the dogs love it when we join them in the sea :-)The beaches along this coast are a great mix of soft shallow sandy ones, and dramatic cliffs. Because it’s an estuary the waves are usually not to bad for swimming.

Beautiful photo. Looks so tranquil. In a setting like this, I would never want the day to end.

This is beautiful Seonaid. It’s a scene I could gaze upon for a long long time.

    • The light was beautiful, and it changed slowly over half a an hour, giving us a wonderful array of feelings and colours.
This was around 3:45 in the afternoon.
It always amazes me to remember sitting at the same spot around midsummer at 10:30pm with similar light!
I love the dramatic shift over 6 months.

Let me know your thoughts on my post...I love feedback :-)
