Passing

She passed peacefully
Despite soft words of comfort
Grief rips us open

In memory of a dear friend, Ruth, who was cremated today.
She made the world a brighter place, and filled it with laughter, mischief and creative passion.
She saw clearly and with an open heart, and I will miss her.

I love art which is here now and gone tomorrow...like food and nature...but also have a passion for vintage and the ancient past! Nature is my favourite muse, with her wild ever shifting seasons. 1. You’ve made me wonder whether a person can be cremated, or only the person’s lifeless body.

Oh, Seonaid, I am sad to read of your dear friend’s death, but glad to read words of such love shared. May the love you share help to heal your grieving heart.

  3. A touching tribute Seonaid. I am deeply sorry for your loss! The beautiful people who have touched my life and passed on from their own continue to inspire me, they always will and I will always find them amongst the beautiful things in this world that we treasured.

I’m sorry for your loss of a great friend, Seonaid. Her memory will live on in you and all who knew her. It takes time to understand that she is really gone and you can talk no more, laugh together no more. Though, I know you will keep her memory alive. A beautiful tribute.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful tribute. Perhaps because we are capable of giving and receiving infinite love, we can also feel the most intense pain. x

  16. The older we get, the more of these losses of dear ones occur. But that doesn’t mean it gets any easier accepting the loss. I know you’ll find comfort in what you do so well: writing about Ruth and honoring her life that way.

Sorry such a valued friend has been lost – but it is clear that her impact remains.

  22. It’s been a week like that Seonaid. However worn these words may sound … I am, truly, sorry for your loss. Perhaps you are better trained to understand loss than the rest of us. To me it seems to loom theoretically. And, when it does happen I feel distant from it … I wonder why that is? Perhaps, on the other hand I am simply too much of a realist and refuse to allow the accompanying (and perhaps healthier) emotion to take hold? In any case … be positive and grateful for the stroke of luck which brought Ruth into our life. D

    • Thanks David, I think it doesn’t feel real to begin with, so the emotions are distant. The reality of deaths finality takes time to seep in, and although I will miss her, the true loss is for her husband to bear. She wanted us to remember her vibrant life, and not the the illness at the end, and those are the wonderful memories which were shared among us, with laughter and smiles, after the service.

A beautiful tribute to your friend. x
