Weakening Winter Sun

Everyday he glows a little softer, his light dimming as the year dips towards its nadir. All the strength and warmth of him is lost in the long deep shadows which skim across the earths skin. The air becomes quiet and still in these last few weeks of the year, as though we all hold our breath wondering what will come now?

The perfect time for inner reflection…..

About greenmackenzie

Hi, I'm Seonaid, and I share my home on the shores of Loch Ness deep in the Scottish Highlands with my husband, my son and a couple of dogs. I love art which is here now and gone tomorrow...like food and nature...but also have a passion for vintage and the ancient past! Nature is my favourite muse, with her wild ever shifting seasons. I have been using and teaching mindfulness and relaxation for over 12 years, and have yet to become any sort of expert :-) I'm a Psychotherapist and Cancer Support Specialist in Maggies Highlands

yes, I love these quieter times.
And I can almost feel that warm winter sun. Weaker than summer, yes, but warm none the less

This is perfect and beautiful. You captured this time of year in your words and image. Magic. 🙂

Beautiful as always! I’m waiting for the results of the climate meet…hopefully more than from the last one. We are still in warm weather…10 degrees and rain.

The sun must trace a very shallow arc, this time of year, where you are? Not quite as extreme here, but noticeable as we approach solstice. Wonderful image

  5. Lovely post .. We are so enjoying the sun in our part of the world

  6. I love the softer light this time of year; took some pics at noon time yesterday and they came out good (try that in summer light!). Yes, time to move into reflection and preparing for the new year. Events are quickening, so contrary to what should be the slowest time of year…

    • I know, the inner pull is towards stillness and reflection, but for most of us that doesn’t come until the party season is over….that’s after new year here in Scotland!
Still it’s possible to steal a few moments of reflection here and there among the twinkling lights😊

  7. A lovely sprinkling of sunlight, Seonaid. I think we’re all holding our collective breath to see what the New Year brings, and hoping for peace and goodwill to all men. x

  8. Still waiting for cold and snow. Too much warmth, even for a fire in the hearth. Holding our collective breath. Best, I guess, to breathe.

I hope he turns warm as quickly as he can, but tis the season and no doubt it will unfold when its ready.

That sun is warm and delicious, like honey drizzled over the water.

What a beautiful post. I feel the crisp air despite the sun. Soon the shortest day of the year will be here and we’ll be seeing days with longer light. Here in Poulsbo the rain is coming down as if shot from a fire hydrant. Please send some of your sun! 😉
